Question To water or not to water

Good afternoon crappie guru's. When freezing crappie,do you freeze them in water or not. I am hoping to catch enough for a fish fry this spring and need advice on freezing.

personally i don't use water. not that it doesn't work but it just takes up more room in the freezer. if you just make sure to get most of the air out of the bag before you freeze them, water shouldn't be needed to prevent freezer burn. i actually use a food saver now, those things work great.

    Default what a mess!

I have used water with all fish. Only thing is after being in the freezer for that long them bags are likely to get moved around and bumped against other things, so don't dethaw them without having a bowl or pan under them. Learned that the hard way.

always use water, but i reuse old cool whip or cottage cheese containers. Then just sit out or place in the sink with luke ware water and leave the lid on. Easiest way for me to do it.

Not too worried about space in the freezer... thats what the freezer on the beer fridge in the garage is for

Never used the water trick, just patted dry and wrapped well. They don't last that long in the freezer anyway.
