Has anyone ever caught or fished for Bluegill on Truman or Smithville? With the excellent populations of gamefish in both lakes, was wondering if the Bluegills grew to any size and if you have caught any?

I have fished for gills to bait trotlines with on Truman but never had great success and have never caught any big ones. Springfork Lake just south of Sedalia holds an excellent population of big gills and redears.

Never caught any big gills on Truman either, best place for them are farm ponds and strip pits. My Uncle has hybrid blue gill in his pit, they are some giant ones in there and a blast to catch.

We caught a bunch of gills over on the pomme arm out of osage bluffs last summer, along the rocky bluffs in areas where the bluffs flattenened out in spots right next to the banks, in the first cove on the left as you turn up the pomme. We were bored one afternoon and hadn't caught hardly anything for a while so we went over there, my son cuaght them an almost every cast in some spots. Not big at all, but a bunch of them.

Size: 15.2 KBHere is a big redear I caught on Springfork. It's not the largest one I've caught there. I've caught a couple over 11". I have also caught some very nice gills there. Other photo is a limit of crappie (30) and a limit of gills (20). I'll be going back this Spring. It's a blast!

    Default Jack try this

    You might try bluegill.com

Sign up – go the Missouri forum – Search Smithville

You should find a lot of good information there Jack.

I heard they were having a Bluegill camp and some kind of Northland get together also.

Shhhh don’t tell him it doesn’t exist I’m just trying to get rid of him!:D
