Default Does jig head size matter???

Sometimes. Usually more to the fisherman then the fish.

I like a good solid feel on my line. I also like to get down to the desired level quickly and to be able to feel the brush and bottom well. Some guys even claim they can hear my jig hit the bottom (from their boat).

Pictured are some of my winter jigs. They vary from 1/8 oz to 1/2 oz. I normally use the biggest when fishing 25'+ deep. I only use one at a time most times. When fishing suspended fish or fish on the beams I sometimes use two.

They are used for vertical fishing, not casting.

All of these have been producing well this winter.

I haven't been on this site for awhile, just can't seem to keep up with two sites.
    Good fishing.

If it works for you, stick with it. I do think there are times when fish may prefer one size or color over another. I agree a little more weight would help you have a better feel when fishing deep. I've used 1/4 oz. but that's as big as I go when tightlining.

The weight determines who fast or slow the jig sinks, which is supposed to make a difference. I am no expert though.

Good presentation Ernest. I can see where using the heavy jigs have their places. Not applicable to casting or longlining though, especially the heavier jigs.

Ernest welcome back!!!!!! Sometimes head size matters but I think only when your casting. Some of the guys in my office were having problems using the bigger heads and were missing alot of fish. I told them to bring some in, seems they were using size 6 hooks in an 1/8 and 1/4 oz mold with a barbed collar,

Told em to cut off the collar or buy the collarless mold. There just wasn't much room between the hook point and the materials after they tied them. After they did that no problems.

That's why making your own is so much fun, you have stuff the other guys don't.
