Shore Fishing or where to rent a boat...

I have been itching to take my buddy out fishing for his first crappie He has yet to ever go fishing for one and me growing up in Michigan love to fish for them. However, we have no boat and am not sure where to rent on Kinda of new to fishing for crappie in southern cali, and am looking for any good direction. Have the fishing equipment, minus any live bait suggestions, since we use to slay them in Michigan with minnows & crickets!!!

I live in Sherman Oaks, right where the 101 meets the 405. As for driving range I would say anything up to 2 hours. That would be about the maximun for me and my buddy.
