    Default TV fishing and teaching

The best channels on direct tv to watch fishing shows are 603; 605; 608; 671 because they have programs that educate about fishing instead of just trying to push a product.

The ones I watch most are:

    Jimmy Houston
    Midwest Crappie
    In Fisherman
    Hank Parker
    Babe Winkleman
    In fisherman critical concepts
    G3 Sportsman
    The Joy Of Fishing
    Fishing Club Journal
    Rusty Faulk
    Linder's angling edge
    Linder's fishing edge
    Bill Dance Outdoors
    Due North Outdoors
    Joe Butcher
    Outdoors Ohio
    Ice Fishing Today

I like to watch Kentucky Afield when I go see my Appalachia kinfolk in Ky. Bill Dance is pretty good on 603 but Roland Martin is an air head. Local favorite in SC is Monty McGuffy's Carolina Outdoorsman or Sportsman.

David they had six super crappie shows on so far this season. They all are my favorites but for teaching you cannot beat the Linder's Angling Edge or Bill Dance.

Russ Bailey (Midwest Crappie) just posted this on another thread. Thought it would be nice to post it here too. Here is what he said.

"For those of you that have had problems viewing the old Midwest Crappie shows due to the shows locking up, I think I have good news. I found a website tonite that I did not even know our shows were on. It is watchtheoutdoors.com I am not sure how we got on there, but it seems to play the older shows with no skips. Just thought I would let you know in case absoutley nothing else is on tv!!!"

    Ship ... Thanks watchtheoutdoors.com link

Regarding TV fishing, I mainly watch WFN (just about any show, as I like fresh and saltwater fishing) Here in NYC, we don't get nearly as many 'fishing' channels as the folks in the midwest & southern states. FWIW, I'm using Verizon Fios. Not DirectTV, Time Warner or any other cable network.

I like Bill Dance but can do away with him 'playing' the fish once it's hooked! (i.e. gets near the boat and you can hear him freespooling the reel and then reeling... also he 'guides' the fish back and forth waiting for it to jump) ... Reel it in and toss it back and go catch another! How simple is that? However he does an excellent job with provided information (i.e. weather, lure, presentation, water clarity, temp, etc.)

I do not like Roland Martin!!! This guy would advertise "a tree branch with thread and safety pin" if you would pay him!!! Also doesn't like his guests 'outfishing' him ... LOL

Hook n Look is fun to watch

I like Hank Parker Jr. ... love the fact he sometime does the show with his kids.
Scott Martin Challenge is fun to watch at times.

Haven't tried fly fishing, but I'll watch it. Some of the folks are sometimes 'drama queens' when they hook a fish.

They don't promote Crappie fishing too much on WFN (not even close to Bass - percentage wise)

Fishing City Limits is nice (Mike Iconelli)

Anything with the Linders involved is informative.

G3 Sportsman - whenever I can catch it, is fun to watch

Jimmy Houston is a comical (in a good way ... that laugh = priceless!)

There are others, but listed those that really come to mind.

The In- Fisherman Critical Concepts series has to be the gold standard as far as just purely informative, Jimmy Houstan as far as humourous- LOVED his "bloopers"!
