Default First Annual Kansas City/Smithville Crappie Camp

At our get together last night someone (keeferfish) suggested the KC guys and gals should have a Crappie Camp. We all thought that would be a great idea. This will be a Friday night camp, Saturday fishing day. It was suggested that we have the camp in May when the spring storms are over. I put a poll up to find out what weekend works for everyone and what campground everyone would like to camp at. Please vote for one of the days and one camp ground. The poll is also anonymous. I will call the Park's Dept today to see what the rates are and what kind of discount they might give us for the group. Any and all comments or suggestions are more than welcome. Here's to what I hope will be a long standing KC/Smithville tradition. So, here we go!

I was first so it’s settled because the poll shows 100%! :D Crap Alex voted!

Just to let you know the first date is Mother’s day weekend and the last is Memorial weekend.

FYI – Smiths Fork (Below the Dam) is operated by the city of Smithville and has no direct lake access. The other two campgrounds are run by Clay county parks and have lake access. I will call Clay County to see if we could reserve a loop.

Here is what I found out – you can reserve camp sites only if reserving 10 or more and only on non-holiday weekends. They require the first night fee for a deposit for each site reserved. No music after 10pm, that’s when quite time starts. We would need a permit if there was keg beer (doubtful). Electric sites range from $18-$22 per night.

Picture is of Crow’s Creek Campground below, I say reserve a loop if there is enough interest.

Excellent idea Bill, if the group decides 5/13-14, I'm in.

I voted for either of the two middle weeks...not sure when our son's HS Graduation Party is going to be, but...I'm interested to see the results so we can plan accordingly! Looking forward to it.

Not sure if this will sway anyone’s vote but The KCCC tournament is on the 14th from 6am to 1pm. I fish this ever year and there are always over 100 boats in it. The lake will be BUSY, it's crappie and bass and it leaves from Camp Branch so don’t plan on using that boat ramp, talk about a ZOO! I doubt Alex will be able to get his required regatta permit for Saturday.
