What's the difference between Longlining and Spider rigging.
From what I can see Spider rigging is out of the front of the boat & Longlining is out the side. Any help would be appreciated.

Spider rigging is the same thing as slow verticle trolling. You have a weight about three ft. above your jig to help keep your lines verticle. You drop your lines down to a set depth and move the boat very slowly. Long lineing you just have a jig on and you cast out as far as you can cast( about 30-35 ft.) and then maybe let out a little more line depending on how deep you want to troll and you pull the jig through the water with your trolling motor....go slow the jig goes deeper.....speed up and the jig runs shallower.

Agreed! The weight of the jig can make a difference when longlining too. The time of year can make one method better than the other.

Spider riggin is usually done 0.2 to 0.6mph...to keep the baits verticle in the water column...

Longlining is usually done 0.8 to 2.0mph....speed of boat/ bait size/ line size makes baits ride higher or lower in the water column
