    Default Need Help Choosing Reel

What is a good reel for a 10 ft. Sam Heaton Super Sensative. It will be used for vertical jigging tops and lay downs. Also how would braid work with this setup with tube jigs or hair jigs.

Smallest, lightest, cheap reel you can find. All you need is something to hold line. As for braid, I know some who really like it but to me it seems to "stick" to limbs. It also is a pain on windy days. On windy days the braid will twist and wrap around the tip, very aggravating.

X2 on the braid. BPS has the small wally marshal bait caster for 14.95 if one is close or small cheap under spin or spinning.

Line twist is a pet peeve of folks that use braid. It has no memory to speak of but the twist is aggravating. Small baitcasters have a better drag system and work well with vert. jigging. I use 1500 to 2000 series spinning reels and 6lb hi vis line. You can go heavier but this is what I have, run what you brung. Every now and then I don't reel all the way in and lift my arm so that I have about 10 or 12 feet of line out and let the jig spin til it quits, works good for me. Look for a reel that balances the rod with your hand just in front of the reel and keeping a finger on the reel seat and the sensitivity is great. Holding the rod at the balance point has little fatigue and you don't miss fish.
