    Exclamation Monster Gar

Here's pics of a monster Gar caught by our customer Aaron Atkinson of Lonegrove, OK.

He was using the 9-0' Toughstick / 85lb. Biggame Braid, and an Abu 7000i reel.

Wow! That is a lot of fish! As an avid bowfisherman in my younger days, we used to catch and eat a lot of Gar. Most people don't realize that Gar are quite good to eat if cleaned properly. I had to be tricked into it the first time, but after that - I always kept some for supper. The edible meat lies along the backbone and is clear in color and resembles Crappie meat. However, there are lots of other colors of meat on a Gar; and you do not ever want to eat that stuff - or Gar eggs! Gar eggs are poisonous if eaten, is what I have always been told! Oh, I bet that was a fun fish fight!

That fish must have come across from the Texas side. Nice Catch.

Looks like a huge torpedo with fins...and they have some power! Ask Jeremy Wade on the Animal Planet.
