I use 5.6 next to motor, then I use 8 ' footers then 10 footers then 12 footers, the boat is 8 foot wide, so I can cover 30 foot wide path. Only thing is, I have not trolled for crappie in 3 years, One rod at a time and one fish at a time,I am hooked on jigging.
I trolled for 5 years continuously then just changed up one day and have not looked back.

Thanks guys. Is there any advantage of using longer rods out the back?

You cover more water on a single pass.

Better coverage and less chance of tangles on turns with staggered lenghts.

I use 9' Roger Gant BnM poles out the back. Very sensitive tip with good backbone.
