    Default G.loomis Decision

Interested in the 6ft SJR 720. Trying to decide between a mag L or
UL action. Will be used to throw 1/32 and 1/16 jigs around docks.
Perhaps another Loomis rod would be even better?
Thanks for any and all suggestions .

Save your money and get something cheaper. I use a lighting rod from berkley and I know a few guys that use Berkley cherrywood rods and we have no issues fishing docks. BnM also makes a rod for shooting docks and you can cast with them just fine too.

No offense Cali, but no one considering a Gloomis is never going to get a Cherrywood, though I do agree that he should save some money and get something that is just as good for less than $250 - $400, unless he is getting the GL2 version for $155. I have never had a Mag-lite in my hands and it may be stiff enough, but I don't like floppy rods for throwing jigs. I prefer 7 ft for jig casting in lite action. Really the onyl way to know is to get the rods your considering in your hands and seeing what they feel like.

Take a look at a few StCroix rods. ECS70LF, AVS66LF.

Killer sale on these Cabelas rods. You could get 3 to 6 of these for the same price as a Gloomis. Cabela's: Cabela's Prodigy® Spinning Rods

GRIZZ I agree with ya on getting your hands on the rod you want to try. But I have a SJR 721 that I use for casting but I would perer something shorter than 6' for docks so I can cast and shot the docks. But than again a guy could just take a couple more rods with him too. As for your St. Croix suggestion I totally agree with ya. I have 3 and love fishing with all three of them!

I have the SJR 600. It's a great rod, but it's got loads of backbone. Take a look at the SR rods. They have a softer action than the SJR rods. IMO, the SR rods are better for tossing light crappie jigs. I use the SJR for casting light bass jigs. I wouldn't use it for dock shooting.

Once you fish them then it all comes to you.....superior graphite content and the actions and feel are unlike any other brand besides maybe St.Croix.
