Default How to mount my Hi-teks

How are you guys mounting the base in the floor of your aluminum boats. My decks are aluminum and I dont think I can get under them to put a plate or nuts on the back side. Are yal just using some type of self tapping screw? Thanks for any info. Dan

There is a device called a nutter It's kind of like a rivot gun. You drill a hole place the so called rivot in the hole squeeze the handle's together just like a rivot gun and bam you now have a threaded hole in the deck.
I used one to mount some home made rod holders a long time ago and they worked great.
Do a search online and you will see what I'm talking about.

They come new with screws not bolts. The instructions also give you the size bit to use to predrill the holes! I had to go up one size bit to put screws in my aluminum deck. If you dont have the screws I would call and find out the size and go pick some up at your local hardware!

might want to add a little advice when using alum. rivnuts and using stain. bolts you might want to use some di-electric grease to the threads to help stop corrosion.

If the screws strip out or the holes waller out and it becomes loose, you could also replace them with ss 1/4 inch toggle bolts.

I"ve used the rivnut dealio and it works good when it works. I've had some problems with the nut turning in the hole. I had to take a small center punch and ding the side of the nut to help it hold a little better. Not foolproof, but a great idea and I use them. The tool is relatively cheap.
