I tie just a normal knot, just leave the tag line that you normally cut extra long say 12"-18".

tim, I use the same method as Ted's and it works very well. I have drop-shot for years on walleye and bass and it is very productive. Great post Tim

On a drop shot reg with a hook a Palomar Knot is recommended but I don't know about on a jig.

Go to google and type in Palomar knot it will give you the info you need.

If you tie a Palomar knot, take the long tag end and pass it back through the top of the the ye of the hook and it will cause the hook to stick straight out from the main line. Denny Braur showed this trick at a BASSMASTER UNIVERSITY outing.

This is also how Steve McAdams was showing how to do it at the Jackson Boat show he suggested using 15 lb test so that the hook would stick out to the side away from the main line.
