    Default Slip Bobbers

About this time of year folks start talking about slip bobbers.
Here's my setup that has served me well.
I've been using a Mr. Wally one, and it was really good
for casting with it's weighted bottom.

But last year I tried a "Thill" and I like it too.

    I use 15 or 20# braid and haven't lost a setup yet with a
mono leader that breaks when hung.
I glue the bottom bead in place on the bobber.

I still use a "Thill Waggler" and rig it slip bobber style. Works for me.

Your first one with weighed bottom is good for casting on really windy days but thats the only time I use one as I am afraid of missing the crappie up bite, many times my regular lite bobber will all of sudden ride high or lean over & I know I gots a fish taking my minnow & set hook- would miss this with weighted bottom-just the way I fish - like your second set up-up north here fish are smaller then yours usually use 6# main line with a 2 or 4# mono clear/floro leader.

Nice setups Mack, i have used both, but without leaders, as i use 4# mono. I will probably try the braid with mono leader as u suggest.

I like both your rigs, but tell me how you glue the bottom bead on without glue in the hole? Thats a great idea!

    Talking Mo Info

    Super Glue, just a little.
Line it up 1st, hold it sideways.
Yup, I get stuck to it as well sometimes.

I use the weighted one for casting.
I don't let it sit around, I slow drag it with either a
road runner or minnow on a 12" leader.
No chance of the Ghost Bite doing that (Upward motion).
Got one of our 2#ers doing this on LOP while Mike
was slow trolling in the back with C&C rigs and
I was doing the Captain thing.
I pitch the other rig with my 10ft ProAngler and it can tell
me when the Ghosts show up.

    Oh yeah, one more thing.
It's not the size of our fish being the reason for the braid,
    It's the no-curling, no-stretch and sensitivity.
Plus I can get most of my rig back and not have to waste
precious time re-rigging when under time limits.
    :D

I have used a bottom bead under a float also but I do not glue it. Yes it does protect the bottom of the float from getting the swivel stuck up it. I let mine "Free fall" down to the swivel. It is an added attractor of fish to the offering below.

We use the braid too, on the spring bite try a Comal 1 1/4" weighted pear float and connect to the bottom snap and wrap the braid around 5 or 6 times and set it. Holds better and gives that jig some mojo when you pop it!
