This is often a Chevy vs. Ford thing, i.e., what you like. I happen to use mostly Shimano reels but have reels of other brands that work well, too. Lots of people on here also like Pflueger. I have a cheapo Abu Garcia Cardinal 100U that works well when fishing with bobbers. So basically, it's pretty wide open.

I'd say you'd be better off to focus on what reel features make the most difference when crappie fishing. For me, instant anti-reverse, light weight and smooth reeling action are the primary deciding factors.

    Good luck.

Spinning I like the Shimano Sidestabs. They used to be real cheap but the new ones are a great value.

It depends on your style of fishing. If its a good cating reel thats also good on a jig pole. Phlueger President is hard to beat!!!

That rules me out because I use the mini bait caster by Wally Marshall for $20 at Bass Pro and use 30 lb braid on them. So my style may disturb a brushpile or two. Spining reels all I have ever used is Quantum and never had any trouble with them from the $15 Optix all the way up to the $150 Energy PSI series. Reels are like someone said Ford/Chevy kind of deal.

For the jig pole the only reel I want to use it the Uncle Bucks baitcast reel. Super cheap and holds up fine. When it dies, I send it to Hogster1 and he replaces a plastic stop with a metal stop, and it should last as long or longer then any 50+ dollar reel.

The beauty of this reel on a jig pole is it only adds several ounces to the setup.

Any 8-10lb high vis braid will do for me.
