    Default Hand held gps

Does any one use a hand held gps for marking their honey holes and what brand do you use. Are you able to down load a lake map on it? Just wondering because Bass Pro has the Garmin eTrex Ventrue HC on sale for only $119.

I use the exact model and works for me. It may only be accurate to 15 feet so sometimes you may need to make a couple of passes to find a brush pile. There are more accurate units but hard to beat the price. The lake maps software is good but will cost as much as the unit, you don’t have to have it but it does show contour lines.

I carry an e-trex as a backup to my main GPS. I used a hand held for years it worked great. I wouldn't be without mine.

the etrex lineup has been around for a long time, and is a good cheap lineup. they vary in accuracy and features by the exact model, but any will get the job done. if you are just using it for marking brush and hotspots, i wouldn't bother with the maps due to the expense.

Since I was using a Garmin 76S before getting a Lowrance 522C I continue using both units having the same way points on each. I keep the Garmin zoomed in maximum and use the Lowrance as I close in on the way point then use the Garmin while working the way point.

I can carry the Garmin and mark way points when fishing with others and once I'm back in my boat I use the Garmin to find the way point then mark my Lowrance.

If I would ever have to do a reset on the Lowrance I would loose my way points on the Lowrance but would still have them on the Garmin to get them re-entered into the Lowrance. I also have Easy GPS a free software program on my computer where I can bring the Garmin in and up load and save the way points on my computer where I would be able to down load them onto another GPS.

You can download easygps.com and back up all your waypoints to your computer. It's free and you can use it to download to another or new device or share them with me.:D:D Just in case it's a good back up plan.

Thanks for all the input. I'm guessing that if the batteries go dead that your waypoints are save. Thanks for the advice on the easygps.com down load.

Use the same one Jamie does!
