I wondered what happens to the fish at a few holes I fish at. They shut off as the sun starts to come up. I thought the baitfish must be moving to a different spot as the sun comes up?

Thanks Ship. That's a great article. I may give it a try out on the ice. I may not have to drill as many holes if it works.

back in the early 80's, one of my buddies was suppose to bring extra minnows for a nite fishing trip here on Jordan Lake. after running out and not having anymore minnows, I remembered reading about fishing with pieces cut from a small crappie. the article said the guy was using it for catfish, but he had caught crappie off of one little piece. we tried it and did indeed catch crappie and a few were fairly nice. don't know if it was the shimmer of the piece with the lantern on it or the smell.it does work!

There used to be some old guys who fished a bridge near where I grew up in Md. and allthey used for crappie was little strips of crappie , you could see where they had been cause there would be dried up crappie skeletons laying around. We also used to use (still do sometimes) small like 1/4"x1" stips of squid on a jig some days they go nuts over it somedays they don't want it.
