In 1984, came up the channel of Pearl Harbor onboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN- 70); we manned the rails in dress whites, stopped as the tugs gathered to push us to "1010" dock and upon command saluted USS Arizona (BB 39) to port....surprised me that afew others, some of whom were also quite young, were shedding tears to a ship they had at best only read of...now USS Missouri (BB 61) is permanately moored just astern, guarding her, as she and her crew rest forever in their final berth...entirely fitting.
