I heard about a new sickle hook that just came out and was showed at the Crappie USA Classic. Does anyone have a link or some more info that I can review? Thanks in advance.

Haven't heard about a "new" sickle hook, but are you talking about the sickle made by Matzuo?

This is showing mainly bass size I think but it does give a good example of different hooks I think.

You can find sickle hook jigs for panfish on E-Bay. Not sure if they work any better than regular.

Been making jigs in lead mold JUST SO I can use those. I LOVE them! I have never had better more secure hook sets and the Matzuo brand stays sharp no matter how many you catch or what you do to it. GREAT hook!

I like them, been using them since I found out about them. seems like the hook set is in the roof of the mouth and not on the side, fish do not come off as easy when hooked in the roof, anyway seems like.

I've recently started using sickle hooks myself and notice that I have to keep the hemostats close by to remove the hook. They tend to hook the roof of the mouth a bit further back than regular hooks, but as far as missed fish I can't say that they up the catch ratio. I still have regular hooks and use them too. Beagles above statement is spot on, and once you try them you'll see it for yourself.

Yeah the new Do-It catalog is finally starting to circulate. Word on the streets about the hook is that it's a proprietary design. No word on who they have contracted for the job. And the hooks aren't ready yet apparently.
No point in even thinking about the Wacky mold until they are.

VMC makes a reverse sickle hook, I think they call it the Barbarian, never tried them though. Probably too heavy wire for crappie fishing around brush.

It is a Mustad hook I will be making them shortly as soon as my venders get some in stock I have some sample hooks now and there working out pretty good shooting docks cant wait until spring to try them out long linning.I dont know if its a better hook but I think it may be as good as the sickle the circle part of the hook sets back further then the sickle so there saying less fish lost.If anyone is intrested I will take some per orders but can tell you there not going to be cheap my price is going to run me 35.00 to 45.00 thousand its just like last year when the sickles went to 40.00 thousand and now you can get them for 20.00 this hook will come down in price when the new wears off I hope anyways. So My price for 100 hooks is going to run 16.00 hundred plus shipping and the sickle hooks are 12.00 hundred plus shipping. My e-mail is aandjtackle@gmail.com

thanks james

Now I'm confused. James, can you post a pic of this "new sickle hook". I don't have the catalogue and the do-it website doesn't have a new hook mentioned that is anything like a sickle hook.

This is the new Wacky jig hook and jig from Do-It molds.

I dunno if I would really call it a sickle at all. But that is the only thing even remotely close to a new sickle that I have heard about so far for this year.

My sponsor bigmikesjigs.com makes all of my tournament ready jigs with the number 4 sickle and 6 sickle. I dont want any other hook unless one comes out better. He will custom make any color and and will match any plastic bait color for you. Thanks!! and God Bless!!
