    Thumbs up Crappie Cam

Man, I'd love to see what is lurking in the muddy depths of High Rock!! Let us know if you see any of the monster slabs at the Rock and I'll get a camera too. I know that the cameras use infra red lighting but I just don't know if it would have much visibility in our stained waters.

From my experience dont waste your money if the water in your lake is even slightly muddy or stained. I got one the Xmas before last to use for ice fishing and looking around at a lake up here in PA. This lake has decent visibility but man I couldnt see more then a few feet with the camera and basically was a waste of time and money. I even tried to drop in down by a brushpile one time and could feel it hitting the brush but could barely make out any twigs and this lake is actually not that muddy or stained. I ended up selling it on ebay to a guy who lives in Minnesota and he said it was awesome up there in his clear lakes. My other buddy has one and got the same results with it that i did in this one lake we fish and like I said its not that murky. He thought it was crap until he used it up on lake Erie and Champlain, he said its like night and day.

So my advice from a previous Aqua Vu owner: If your not fishing in the crystal clear lakes such as many northern lakes in the great lakes region, like Erie or Champlain I wouldnt waste you money because you will be very dissappointed and frustrated with the lack of distance you can see. I considered my home lake a pretty clear lake and like i said could not see anything.

As the old saying goes "You get what you pay for". They will work in stained water but you need one of the newer units. The older ones weren't as good as the ones out now. More technology. If you like to see what your bait or jig is doing and how fish relate to it, then it would be worth it. One draw back with the camera is that you will spend a lot of time viewing it, instead of fishing with it. Like anything else, it is just another tool in the fishermans arsenal.

As Beaver said, "you get what you pay for". I have one and it works very well. I believe a lot of people are disappointed because they expected underwater footage comparable to the discovery channel. You are buying a camera, viewing screen, battery, charger and the necessary cables/components for a couple hundred bucks. You can't buy a decent video camera for that much money. Now, the cameras work fine just at a short distance, I average about 5-8 feet of viewing with my Scout SRT, after 8' it gets pretty fuzzy. I think you would be pleased with the SRT (it is the cheapest one that still has spectral lighting and water temp).

If you check on Harbor Freights sight they have them for less than $90. which includes night vision.

I have one and I cannot tell the difference in the picture than Aqua vue's.

In fact it is better than Aqua Vues that does not have night vision.
