I have a good friend who catches a lot of crappie. More than he could ever hope to eat. He probably gives 50% of his catches away to those less fortunate. He takes a trip up north every year just to catch them perch. He claims they taste better than crappie. I can't imagine that but, I would like to find out for myself someday.

I've only ate one of those perch in my life but i'd dang sure like to change that,i fried him up with walleye and crappie and he was every bit as good as the eye which makes him a bunch better than crappie.......fine pics of some good eaters.

Hey scottyc,

Nice catch! I haven't had the chance to do any freshwater fishing in Jersey (have done a lot of saltwater). I also notice the crappies here in NY & Jersey seem to be darker than those caught elsewhere (i.e. looking at the many pics by others in various states). As far as the yellow perch goes.... GOOD EATING!!! Just like others mentioned, skillet with some oil and corn meal will take care of em :) I get mine at a lake in Westchester County as well as a couple resevoirs.

Where in Jersey are you located? Perhaps we can drop a line in the water one day :)

Any day fishing beats doing something else anytime. Alan, that is a good looking Perch. We used to catch a ton of those jumbo perch up in Lake Erie. Nice job on the crappies too folks.
