    Default Non-Resident License Hike

I was wondering why MDGFP increased the non-resident freshwater license fees. It was a real shock to find that it jumped up $20 from last year. The way I look at it is, this money will go to improve the awesome fisheries they have in the state and is well worth it. If any one knows let me know.
    Thanks, the rascal.

News to me, as I'm a native - but if it went up, it is more than likely because
TN or AL went up on us first. If we upped the ante first, then they will
reciprocate, you can bet on it. What it will mean to me, living in the corner
and fishing as much in TN and AL as in MS, is it'll be even harder to afford
all the licenses. I was already spending over a hundred a year for all the
various licenses, boat launch passes, etc. As for all the extra money it will
generate, it will be split between the "fatcats" in Jackson, and their cronies
for kick-backs on overpriced goods and services paid for by the state.
They already charge so much to fish in their state park lakes I won't fish
in them anymore, and all I hear is how broke they are, can't put gas in the
warden's trucks or do maintenance on them... Sorry for the rant, but we've
got the "best" politicians here in MS money can buy.

I think in MS what ever another state charges MS folk that is the same MS charges those residents, may be wrong but believe that is why there are some many differant charges for folks from differant states. Look at what LA charges MS residents for freshwater and how much less for saltwater.

Well, I've thought about rounding up a crew and surrounding the capitol
till they all surrendered... but they'd probably call in the natl guard, and
that wouldn't be fun! Seriously, I talk to some of the wardens a bit, and
the money ain't goin where it needs to - but they CAN afford new radios
that cost a fortune - and none of em wanted or even like. Wonder who's
got a buddy in the electronics biz? Oh well, maybe the casinos are gonna save us...

I think it all started a few years back when Louisiana did something ike tripled their fees for out of state or Miss residents. So we fired back...And somewhere along the lines they figured out they could really up the out of state rates and just make more money becasue the people will buy them...No choice. Well unless you want to go to jail.

If your are coming from out of state to fish Mississippi, that must mean the fishing is pretty good. What percentage is $20 to your total cost of a trip like that. I cant ever understand the rationale where people complain about the cost of the fishing license and then go out a spend $20,000 for a boat to fish or $7,000 for an ATV. Those license fees are what make our hunting and fishing available and good.

I'm are long time Conservative Republican that likes less taxes, less spending but dont have problem in most cases for user fees. People paying for what they do and have provided for them to enjoy.

Tennesse actually increased all of their license fees by about 30% last year.
