Default Redemption on The Rock (well, sort of:-)

Neighbor wanted to go this evening for a couple of hours so we put in at Flat Creek. We had heard the Whites were going nuts an hour or so before dark around point 15, so was going to have some fun with them. Didn't see any action, so decided to run down toward Virgin Bluff looking for them. Still no schools busting Shad, so we trolled cranks around the island. No luck that way, so decided to try for Crappie. Found some in 30 fow from 8 to 15 feet deep and caught 3 or 4 shorts. Moved to the stickups and caught a few more shorts. Finally just before dark we found a honey hole and pulled 15 or 16 from one laydown. Most were half an inch short, but 3 or 4 were close to 11"
Funny thing is, they weren't too picky on lure or color as long as it was sinking slowly. Cast to the tree, count to 10, pick it up, let it fall and fish on! They were hitting it very light. jut a tap or two, or watch the line twitch and that was it. Most were on 1/32 jig head and almost any Slab Buster we put in front of them. The deeper ones wanted minners, but the ones in the trees wanted jigs.
When we first pulled up we both had a fish on each of the first 4 casts then they got a little spooked, but we were still pulling them out of the same spot.

Sure was fun to actually catch that many Crappie in such a short time on the Rock!:D:D:D Maybe things are turning around with the cooler water temps

Great job. As much time and effort as you have put into that place you certainly deserve a bunch of evenings like that. Well done.
We do not want the gift of a fish; neither do we expect a lesson on fishing; what we direly need is a chance to fish

Shorts means a future is out there. Hopefully there are as many as 2005 next year in the 10" range.
My friend at work's Dad caught some yesterday as well. Most were in the 9" range but they did pull a 16" 2 pounder off one of the docks in Wooley.

Glad to see that you guys found 'em. I think the key right now is to keep looking and locating new spots to catch a few. With 5 or 6 different spots you can go back and catch a limit.
