    Default Now what happens?

    Now, we wait.

Yesterday, the preliminary comment period closed. As of this hour, 1,440 comments have been logged into the Regulations.gov database. More may be added as the late arrivals are prescreened.

Next, EPA will study the comments before deciding whether to issue a regulation banning the use of lead in fishing tackle. The vast majority of comments address the ammo ban which EPA withdrew on August 27. All of this group will be placed in File 13 because they are irrelevant. Whatever remains will be considered.

There's no way to guess how long EPA will take before announcing the next step. That could be-
    a. denial of the remaining parts of the Petition relating only to fishing tackle,
    b. approval of the Petition and issuance of a proposed regulation,
    c. no action--allowing the issue to go dormant for now.

Whatever happens next will be listed on this page on EPA's web site.

Default Coming down to the wire

By law, EPA has 90 days to act on a petition of this type. Since EPA created this docket item on 8/3, action must occur by 11/1--the day before election day. Coincidence? The formal response could be posted on EPA's website immediately (here), or delayed until after the election.

The decision will also show up here (select all document types except Public Submissions.)

No action through yesterday--so it's now down to the wire. Something should be announced today, tomorrow, or Monday.

    Default waiting

I think if it is a yes on the ban. I would announce Monday and hope something big happens this weekend to get the news media on another hot topic. I found out this week that there is going to be a shortage on tin. Because Indonesia is stopping exports of all tin. Just another hit on American pocket books.

Im sure they will wait till later next week to announce, I think it was once worded "political implication" from gun groups. Now they don't want any of that just before elections from anglers now do they.

I'm hoping they dont' but it seems pretty fishy that Indonisia is gonna stop shipping tin, better pray like heck they don't ban our lead.

With all things being considered, it doesn't look good. There's gonna be some changes.
