What spoon you using? 3/8 seems kind of heavy. I use a Swedish Pimple, 1/8 tops.
I know alot of you guys fish "small" tackle, like 1/16 and smaller. But I fished
with Mr. MinnKota quite a bit and he just won't take his foot off the gas, so
I had to adapt being in the back seat and I learned that the big stuff works
very well also. I'ma tight-liner by heart with jig-a-bobbin coming in second.
To stay up-n-down with the gas on I would fish tandem rigs, like a 3/8 spoon
below a 1/8 jig or 1/4 jig below a 1/8 or 1/16 jig on main lake brushpiles. And
you know what, that 3/8 spoon is deadly on crappie. When it's windy these
rigs are good too, and we've got plenty of that on our open prairie lakes.
Don't get me wrong, I fish 1/16's too. But I love that thump or we call it doink
on that big stuff. Ya know that thump you feel is your lure hitting the top of
their mouth. So when your fishing with Tony Stewart, fish big, you might be
surprised.

I make 7 different spoons, the one in particular is a teardrop shape with a
#6 short shank treble. Also, use the do-it 5/8 one same hook set-up. That heavy will allow you to jiggle them off brush when hung. In the fall when the shad are big these big spoons are deadly. I also make the "Swedish pimple" style out of lead and they're awesome too. We have some lakes that the
crappie won't hit em much, others thats the ticket.

Thanks.
