I usually just paint mine down to the fourth eye. I use brite yellow. Some folks use flourecent red or green. Its just kinda personal prefferance thing. Sure makes them easier to see though.
Just starting out with crappie fishing, I was told to paint the tips of my rods for nightstalking. How far down do you paint them? Do you use just white pait or some type of glow in the dark paint? Thanks for the help.

I have been painting my rod tips for over 40 years. The top 3 to 6 inches ,pending on the lenght of the rods. Ice fishing rods maybe 3 inches. Standard rods 5 to 8 inches. I started with bright orange & now use what they call blaze orange. I just think it's easier to see the rods in general. I see now the rod makers are using white & flour. green tips. It certainly helps these old eyes
I paint 4 inches of the tip, Blaze orange, works real good day or night.
I also paint my tips and I just change to a hi vis yellow. PM sent

I got 'em painted anywhere from 2" up to around 6" on my nightstalking rods which arent any longer than 6'6". I can see the bite on the ones painted 2" as well as the ones painted 6". All I have every used is the Walmart $1 can of flat white spray paint. Your overhead light in the boat makes 'em really stand out.
