Are there some general guidelines for "matching lure colors to water color"?

I've always tried to use brighter colors in clear water and darker colors in stained water. If the fish don't like it that way, I try the other way. LOL I've noticed while trolling crankbaits this summer that solid black outfishes solid chartreuse until the sun gets up good. Then the brighter colors seem to work best.

use what the fish want........:p.....dark colors=stained water.....dont know if im right but seems to work for us.....
