I believe it's legal to use lights in Wisconsin. In MN the fishing regs specifically state it is not legal to use lights to attract fish. Wisconsin omits this language.

Living and fishing in MN while having a cabin in NW Wi can become challenging when trying to keep regulations straight.

Fishin slowed for the late part of July and most of August, but the bite's been pickin up again for all sorts of things. Neighbor and I each got our first in season WI Eye a week apart of each other earlier this month.

Slabs are chillin in 6-10 feet on Big Chetac. Haven't done a lot of searchin for them though in the deeper water. When crusin I mark fish all over the column when I'm out deep. Surface Temp was still High 70s last weekend... I'll be up for a night or two this weekend so hopefully it's come down a bit more. Really trollin any kinda crank will work... though I caught more than a meal for me and the fam off my dock with a slip float, 1/16 jig and crappie tubes.

Been going up there for 12 years and have never tried trolling.
I always do my best throwing a Twister Tails at the weedline.
Trying to talk myself into a fish finder upgrade, but hard to justify the expense. The boat is all ready to go because of all the rain we got down here. Everything is messed up.

Honestly, my father uses the fish finder more than i do for actually locating fish. Unlike him, I don't run a company *yet* so I have time to use traditional methods. Mostly I use it for finding structure and learning about new lakes... or to validate what the topo map i just looked at on the DNR sites are accurate (a lot of them are from 1960's).

Send some of that rain up to the NE burbs of the Twin Cities man... White Bear is still hangin near it's lowest point ever. I live just north of there on a smaller lake and it's also down quite a bit. The dredged channel behind my place used to accommodate pontoons. now it won't even let a canoe through.

I am really getting excited for the fall bite to start up...

We use lights alot in Missouri for crappie. (Hot weather!)
If you have shad in the lake they work well. If other type baitfish, not so good.
Do not run the lights to deep. Maybe a couple feet under the water. The floating type work fine too and provide a little more illumination for watching your rod. We use a trouble light with a direct current bulb clipped to the boat gunnel for light.
