    Default long rod tips

It seems we are always hearing about the tips on long rods breaking. The cost of a replacement tip is usually half or more of the cost of a new rod. I was wondering, if a guy spiral wrapped the tip section with some heavy fly tying nylon string (size of dental floss) spaced an inch or two apart, if would help preventing it from breaking without changing its action much? Or how about coating the tip section with epoxy or Sally Hansons nail polish? Has anybody tried it?

What breaks most of them is a crack or crushed by steping on or hitting them. Then first time it's under a strain it breaks. But I have have brand new ones break on the first fish. Guess some may have weak spots or damaged before you get them. I have landed some big fish on my Bucks jig poles and also had some that broke brand new with a dink on them.

How's this for a load and it did'nt break my B-n-M Buck jig pole!

I think that's the answer in most situations. The blanks are thin, and they're being shipped from China. Some of them are bound to be damaged during transit.

To answer the original question, though, I'm not sure wrapping string around the blank will help much. If the blank is damaged, it's gonna break. The string will just keep it attached to the rest of the rod.

    Cool Orange Electrical Tape

I take and cut a length of high quality, orange electrical tape and lay it long ways and role it over between my first 3 eyes from the tip. It makes the tips easier to see and I have not broken a tip since I started doing this.
