Default a tiny bit off topic

i was at lowes today looking at wagons while my mom shopped as we were leaving i saw these long thin peaces of metal and at the top they had a circleish peice of it but it didn't connect but went half an inch twards the middle they were only 77 cents so i got a few for bank fishing; bend half the circle up and in a little more so the pole is on the circle but the part you bent up holds it down and securely

We always used to just cut a forked stick and jab it into the ground for a bank rod holder.

... but maybe you're not allowed to carry a pocket knife?

This is one of those times we need to see a picture. We know you are using them for a rod prop but are not sure what it is that you are using.

We'd do that if we forgot the stringer. The stringer was an old piece of rope with a loop tied on one end, when we caught the first fish that went on the stringer we'd run the unlooped end thru the gill and out the mouth and then thru the loop. The stringer was also tied off to a stick jabbed into the ground.

Yup many times, always liked a good willow limb for my stringer. Good memories from a simpler time
