Minnow trap?

Anyone ever use a minnow trap during nightstalks to catch bait? Looks like hanging one over the side would be a cheap easy way to catch some natural bait when they start schooling under the lights. Just wondering.

Last social at Jordan I just used a small minnow net and scooped 100 minnows at a time right beside the light. They were swimming in a huge ball in circles around the light. I picked out the larger ones and put the rest back in. Repeated a few times as I needed more minnows just put the larger ones in my minnow bucket as I sorted them.

I've used a 5' throw net before and caught hundreds. I've found the fish tend to like the store bought minnows better. They eat shad just about every day and seems like something different is appealing to them. I'd be interested in getting some other opinions as wel.
