I'm a crappie fishing nut and when I can only fish on the weekend I will stay on the water as along as possible. I just fished three days in a row (vacation time) and spent 12 hours on the water yesterday. How long is your average crappie trip?

I'm the same way PanMan, have to let the body tell me how long to fish and most times I still stay to long!

I'll stay as long as they're biting. Even with the heat, if they're biting, i'm fishing.
With the heat down here in Ga. right now (probably same there, dunno) I start at daylight and am off the water by 10:30AM. (That's about the time the water lice and pleasure boater gets in full swing too.:rolleyes That's around 4.5 hrs so I said 4-6 hrs. But during better weather times (spring, fall, and winter) I'll probably fish anywhere from 6 to 8 hrs when I go. That's provided the fish are biting some though.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
I'am on the water from 1am to 10 am usually 3 days a week, don't fish the weekends.

Until momma calls, and tells me I'm done!!
By the time I have purchased some minnows, gassed the truck n boat, paid the "use" fee to get into the reservoir, paid the "fishing" fee to fish and paid the launch fee to launch the boat I have about $40 wrapped up in the trip. I want my money's worth so I fish until they kick me off the water.

When I was younger, much younger we (a couple friends and my self) were big time bass fishing nuts. Once we learned about night fishing for bass which was about 5 years before it even started to get popular; we came up to this lake every week except hunting season & winter for 10 years. We would drive up here about 100 miles one afternoon and leave the next afternoon and get home near or after dark. So over 24 hours a trip. For the first few years or so we were the only bass fishing guys on the huge lake and the only people we saw was an occasional crappie guy fishing with his light above water.
Once the bass clubs found out it was over for peaceful nights like we had for a while.
Not too long ago I would go night crappie fishing and stay out a long time, but that has changed and mostly I go day and not much in the summer. I would still enjoy a few hours out at night, but it does usually take a bit before they bite.

i voted 6-8 hours trip, mostly always a morning fish catcher, the rest of the day gets to rough during summer .
