    Default When spider rigging

why does it matter how far your rods are from the water? I am getting some rod holders for spider rigging but I cannot adjust them up and down.

    thanks

It makes it easier to keep the baits where you want them. Placing the tips a few inches above the water line also helps detect some light bites, especially on a windy day.

Wind is the main reason to keep rod tips low. If they are high the wind will shake the line and thus the rod tips. It's harder to see a light bite.
