The sun can make a huge diff. in the bite often times. I've had similar experiences. Might be the shadows cast if the water is clear enough, who knows.
I started to post this as a reply to one of the Summertime Crappie threads, but decided that might be hijacking So:
Crappie at noon at 93 degrees? Yep, surprised the devil out of me. Went out at 6:00 a.m. on Alabama River near Millbrook and picked up some stragglers here and there. Near noon some cumulo-nimbus clouds began gathering, but no rain. At exactly 12:10 the crappie came alive and I couldn't get my minners down quickly enough. Bite stopped about an hour later. I was single poling dropping into tree tops with 16' of water catching them at 9 to 10 feet. The exact pattern in the same top produced very good results last July. I've been there a few times without cloud cover and got skunked. Guess where I head when I see clouds now!

Life has many choices, eternity has two...choose wisely.
Unapplied biblical truth is like unapplied paint...how many gallons do you have sittin' around? U.D.
I have had similar experiences in the past. Congrads on the catch
Right place right time. You gotta love it.
Got any creeks on your lake? Go up them and look for shad when you see them start fishin. We catch them over here in 100 degree heat in 6-10' ow. all summer.
"Never Fry Bacon Naked"
Just FYI, My little best times app would have put the best times around when you were fishing or withing 30 minutes of it. So maybe it was just dinner time, LOL?
