    Default Summertime fishing

Aside from pulling cranks and night fishing how else can I catch crappie in the summer? Does anybody spider rig or single pole in the summer?
nothing beats time on the water

Spider rigging, pushing jigs and minnows or just minnows still works.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

There's also long lining jigs and shooting docks too!

Several of the folks that fish close to here use the vertical deep jig technique with good results. One of ems catching limits.

If I go in the summer and it's not at night, it's gonna be really early and back by 9 AM if that or very late evening. Just too hot here for me to enjoy that, unless we get some clouds and it cools some, heck a lot, LOL!

Minnow and Jigs. Spring I don't even think about minnows and don't like using them in the summer, but I believe if you can get some to take a minnow it may spur on other to feed. I usually catch my bigger fins on a jig below a minnow that is about 15"-18" above the jig.

Skip, I unload right at daylight and fish until about 9AM. I try to get back in the air conditioned truck without getting soaking wet with sweat.:o

Len, I've been finding fish in the 13'-16' range in waters anywhere from 15'-22' depths. Found 'em in there last summer and theyre there this summer too. Cant explain why...other than the area is holding ALOT of shad.

What you want to look for is the thermocline. Find the depth of the thermocline, then find where cover rises thru/above it. Baitfish will not usually go below a thermocline, since even though the water is cooler, there's little to no oxygen present. Shade is another factor .. since constant shade will usually keep the water, above the thermocline, a little cooler than sunlit water.

One lake I fish, I mostly stay in water under 15' another & I usually stay in water under 25'. Most of the fish I catch are fairly shallow 6'-10'. Like pappy said, you've got to watch the thermocline.
I seem to be catching quite a few on slip floats anf I'm always casting a jig. Debth of fish will dictate head size.
