Default A Nice Break From The Heat

We finally got a break from the unusually warm weather we've had all month. It was so nice and cool this morning that my crew got a bit chilly going down the lake. We had plenty of cloud cover and a nice breeze so we decided to make a full-day trip out of it. I was concerned that the crappie might get a bit tight-lipped after lunch but they seemed to appreciate the cooler weather too and kept on biting so we ended up with a decent mess:

The biggest cat weighed 10.5-pounds and we caught it on a 10' BnM Crappie Wizard with 8-pound line. I use light-wire cricket hooks so we had to chase it down with the TM and wear it out before we could land it. The biggest crappie was 15.5-inches long and we probably had a dozen or so that were 14-inches or better. We had another 15 or so D-fish and suicides that didn't make the picture.

We were fishing with Rosy Red minnows and Shiners under slip-floats from 10 to 15-feet deep over brush piles and Bamboo Crappie Condos. The surface temp was back under 90-degrees - better than the 92 to 95-degrees we've been seeing.

The Weather Guessers say we'll have highs around 90 and lows in the upper 60s for several days. I hope they're right.

Super catch. It's encouraging when you post pics like that. It helps seeing pics like that to keep the rest of us fishing.:o Congrats on yet another good trip. I know your clients were well pleased.

Good bunch of crappie and yes thankful for the clouds that are giving us a rest for the heat. Today the high was 85, been a while since that happened. It has done a lot of hanging around the mid to upper 90's for a while now with enough humidity to add about 10 degrees of heat index.

We just couldn't get this break last week. I spent 4 days out on an island in Ouachita. About all we could do is lay in the water.

The catfish have been slumming around our crappie holes - another over 9-pounds today.
