Been checking out this site for a week or so, seems to be a great bunch of people. Moved back to Macon a few years ago, after spending 7 years in Texas. Our neighbor is a big crappie fisherman (vertical jig exclusivly) went with him several times and couldn't stand it anymore, so I purchased a boat last summer and have been giving it a go on my own. Just got my new 12' Outlaw pole in the mail today, so I'm excited to get out and give it a try. Enough of the small talk, I have a question for yall. Do most of you use production made rods, or are there any of you who have custom made rigs? If so who made them? My neighbor did most of his fishing in Decatur Ill, and has a couple of custom rods made by a guy overthere. Just curious, I hope the Outlaw is as nice a rod as the one he lets me use when I go with him. Sorry for the long post, thinking of taking some vacation for the crappie camp, maybe will get a chance to meet some of you there.

Welcome from Arkansas. Production rods mostly and after using several different kinds you get a feel for what fits you and what doesn't. All in all, they are all close though - long and limber, strong backbone, or lightweight and combos thereof. It's just a matter of what you get used to and willing to put up with, lol. Either way, snatching up crappies thumping the jig or minnow is the name of the game. Look forward to meeting you at crappie camp.
