Personally I would rather fish stained or muddy water. Like frank said use dark colors, also nothing beats a bare jighead with a minnow attatched to it.

Mud-Dabber here. Guess what I fish in, here in West Texas. Lots of red clay lakes. Best colors for me on a consistent basis:
    1). Pink,black,pink
    2). Chartruce,black,chartruce
    3). Unpainted,orange,chartruce
It will all work as long as it is ? and chartruce out here, but everything is TUFF when the water gets below 60 degrees.

    Default Muddy waters

Here is South LA about all we have is muddy or stained waters.
I find the fish tend to stay shallow in the muddy waters (i.e. closer to the bank) I also find that we need to put some kind of attractant on the lure. This will give off a scent trail. We also tend to jerk the bait more, or move it more. I'll pop if a couple of times and then let it sit and then repeat. This is making noise and it will bring the fish to investigate.
Our best colors are black and chartreuse in about the 2" size
I can't leave now; They fixen to turn on.
