Question Tom, GCD & other trollers

Tom, do you like the Hi-Tek rod holders better than the "folding arm" holder that you and I have? I see that Scott has made you a deck piece so you can slide the holder out of the way of the trolling motor...

I do very little spider rigging, mostly long lining when I troll...I am concerned with the rods coming out of my Hi-Tek holders if I get hung up..Is there an attachment for the Hi-Teks to keep the rods secure?

GCD, what set up do you have? Picture please...

I presently have my Hi-Teks on the back so they pull straight back and will not come out..I have Driftmasters on the front with a "folding" post to get the left holder out of the way of the trolling motor when deploying..

I would like to move the Hi-Teks to the front..

    Any suggestions..?

When I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations I have a good day

Dang! This thread isn't what I thought it was going to be about!:D

My setup is nowhere near the traditional Crappie rig... more of a multi-species rig and if I posted pics y'all would laff at me!:o ... but it works for me.

I like Scotts rig better. It don't pinch my hand and I can move it completely out of the way. I can also adjust both holders for my convenience when I fish alone. I put the fold down in my Jon boat.

I have never had a pole come out of the Hi Tek holder.

I only use 1 or 2 poles. More that that, things get too complicated.:o I usually Ky rig more than troll, but shoulder kills me after a couple hours.

After that rotor cuff surgery, I lernt to not use my arm too long when jiggin'. Those are pole "rests" more than pole holders.

cane pole, do you add a bolt with a plastic tie to your rod handles for trolling? I have seen people do this to keep their rods from coming out of the holder when a fish gets on it. DonG, you guys probably already know about that, but if you use it I do not think you will have to worry about rods coming out of the holders.

I have 4 Attwood holders bolted to the gunwale from the console back to the transom on the console side of the boat.

The black ones, not the frilly white ones. These are ok for Crappie and the light drag settings of Crappie fishin', but I don't trust them for bigger fish.

On the other side of the boat I have 4 Downeaster "Salty" holders bolted to the gunwale directly across form the Attwoods.

These are great for big fish and heavier drag settings.

All of my rod holders lock the rod into the holder.

I sit at the console and run the wireless TM with the key fob remote and watch the sonar. Everything in the boat is at my finger tips practically.

I hate being a slave to the bow seat and my setup works for me!

    Default Gcd

I threw some like that one on the bottom away. I thought it was some sadomasochism device.
