    Default rod comparison

Have anyone used the GSS70-UL1 (gander mountain guide series 7ft 1pc, ul, 1/16oz-5/16oz)?

Is it a fast action, medium action, or slow action?

Which rod is better for all-round crappie fishing, GSS70-UL1 and TRS60LF
(St. Croix Triumph Spinning Rod, L power, fast action, 1/16oz-5/16oz, 6ft 1pc)?

They are both $59.99. Which one has more sensitivity?
    Which one can cast further?
Which one can cast more precisely?
Which one can set hook easilier?

    Thank you.

I'm not familiar with these rods but, based on your descriptions, I'd say either one would be fine for casting jigs.

My guess is "fast". I say that because I see very few slow or medium action spinning rods anymore. Fiberglass rods are an exception to that, but there are not many fiberglass rods on the market.

They're both probably IM6 graphite, so there shouldn't be that much difference. Using braid rather than mono will help in detecting light bites.

All else being equal, longer rods will cast farther.

That has more to do with the caster than the rod.

All else being equal, longer rods move more line on the hookset.

    Thanks a lot.
The first one (7ft ul) is IM8.

I've had (and have) quite a few rods and spend alot of time pitching 1/32 to 1/16 oz jigs for crappie. My favorite is a 6' ML one piece St Croix Premier spinning rod (I like my Avid as well, but the price difference isn't reflected in fish catching ability). My 7' rods cast farther--but I seldom cast more than 40 feet or so, because I'm fishing laydowns and other structure and I think the 6' is more sensitive to bites. I also think the light action is too whippy, unless it's a pre-2005 model--St Croix changed the action in late 2005 and when I called them about it, they said it was because they wanted the Premier to better match their other lines. Personally, I think they ruined one of the best crappie jigging rods ever made, but the ML post 2005 is close.
