    Default Black Nose Black Crappie

Before it rained today I went fishing and caught a Black Nosed Black Crappie. Not one with a little speck of black on his head but the black stripe ran ALL THE WAY DOWN HIS BACK.

I was told it's a color mutation in the Black Crappie that causes this.

First time I ever caught one on my lake. Enjoyed seeing him. He was a bean so of course I threw him back. Hope he made it. Wish I would have had my camera. Very neat.

When I fished TN and FL I wasn't aware of black nose's at the time. I may have gotten some and didn't notice. I never read much about crappie fishing or watched fishing shows during the years I was really fishing for crappies a lot. Everything I know I've learned mainly from experience and from other fishermen. I don't know how common they are.

Sac, there fairly common here. I think their a crossbreed that they came up with. They grow quicker, and are alot more aggresive{LOL}!!There were alot of post on them awhile back, you can find out more by doing a search.

Yeah, do a search for them here in crappie.com. There have been alot of discussion about blacknose. The racing stripe comes from a recessive gene that all black crappie have. Nice pic Grizz.

Right, so that would mean that they arn't that common?

For example, I catch fish with a little speck of black and now realize they wern't black nose.

According to my sources they are 4 species:

    White
Black (is Black Nose is a resessive gene black or it's own species?)
    Golden
    Magnolia
