    Default Bone Head

I took my family to enjoy the lake yesterday. When we were loading the boat on the trailer I was able to get in the water a little and float it on without having to crank the motor. I hooked the strap and safty chain and started to pull it out when I felt like I was dragging something. When I went back to see what it was I dicovered that I never trimmed up the motor. The lower unit is fine after I took a file to it and some black paint.
I got out of my normal routine by driving the boat on the trailer and this is what happend. I was so mad at myself and still am after everyone at the ramp was watching what had happend. I'm the one normaly saying look at that BONE HEAD!!

    Default Dumb Stuff

Hey....we've all done something like that. Don't be so hard on yourself. When I got my boat (new) back in 2006, I took my brother out to give her a whirl for the first time. Backing her in, I forgot one important detail. Didn't have him hold the bow rope!

So, as she traveled back off the trailer, all I could do was watch as she drifted out. Talk about feeling stupid! Anyway, another fisherman saw what was going on and came to the rescue. Talk about being embarrassed too! Like I say, we have lapses in judgment from time to time.

I know your pain...I was launching the other day...and my friend kept backing the trailer in the water...and the boat would only go so far off the trailer and stop..after a couple of times I realized that even though I had disconnected the winch strap I still had the safety cable attached.

You mean like trying to launch with the rear tie downs on?... or launching without the drain plug in?

I used to have a little 16' Lowe, launched it without the plug in and tied it up. Pulled the truck off the ramp and parked, by the time I got back to the boat there was a geyser of water coming out of the floor drain and I'm like "where the heck is all this water coming from"... the it dawned on me.:D

Now with my Tracker deep V I can fish all day with the plug out and only feel foolish at the end of the day when I pull the boat and trailer out of the water and water is shooting out of the drain plug hole.

I have done my share. Small boats with no step in the transom made it easy to get the plug in before I had my routine set up. Now the plug goes in before leaving the house. Launched an untied boat last year, no help or sun in sight. Strip down to the tighty whiteys and swim for it, then stand up front drippin wet on the trolling motor to get back to the ramp. But the fish were biting that day. This is the first boat with power tilt and trim and I drug mine up the ramp a couple of times before I got it into my routine to trim before pulling. Don't be so hard on yourself, we've all done it.

I did the exact same thing on my brand new motor. Stuff happens. What type paint did you use?

Went deer hunting one time many years ago drove almost two hours. Got out of the truck and discovered that I had left my rifle at home by the back door.
