Default Keeping minnows alive in a fish tank?

    Eveyone within a 1 hr drive is wanting $2.49 - $2.99/dz minnows.
I found a bait shop in Tn that will sell me a 1/2lb for $7.50 or $15/lb.
My ? is,will a 30 gal fish tank set up with filter & air pump keep 1lb of minnows alive.

Im not sure how many is in a lb as this will be my 1st time doing this.
I will be taking 3-4 dz at a time fishing 2-3 times a week if this helps.

well general rule of thumb is 1 gallon of water per every inch of fish but since they are just minnows and you would be using them im not real sure i would say it would be ok and you can alway add filters to a 30 gallon tank and change 10% of the water like every other day dont see why it wouldnt work

Your prices seem high. I pay $7 for a lb of large fatheads. I just bought 4 lbs this week. I haven't had a die off yet, luckily. I hope I can get them to the weekend so I can use a few lbs. I have a 150 gal tank with a 325 gal/hr pump/filter. Three air stones. I just changed out 25% of the water. Quite a bit to keep an eye on, but worth it if you had to pay $2.69/doz like we do at the bait shops.

    Good luck!

I read somewhere 1 lb of fish per 20 gal of water so you should be ok.

I don't know about weight but I have kept as many as 4 dozen alive in a 20 gallon tank using a cheap waterfall style filter. I would grab a few dozen before I went fishing and put what was left back. I would lose a few now and then but only one or two at a time. Last fall I took the last 5 or 6 and put them in the turtle tank where they lived for about 3 weeks before they got eaten.

We buy our minnows by the pound for $7 for the rosey reds and $9 for regular crappie minnows.

$15 a pound is really high.
