A friend of mind and myself went to Patoka today and fished out of his 20' bennington fishing pontoon. We caught most of our fish tightlinning in 30' of water fishing cover that rose up to 21' deep using nothing but minnows. This hump we fished has many rocks and stumps on it and was loaded with fish the time we were there. It's a rock throw away from the main channel which has 45' of water. We put in at noon and took out at 5. Water temp was around 34 and air temp was 42 with 5 to 15 mph wind all day. We anchored down and fished just off of the bottom. We took home 27 nice sized fat ones and probably threw back just about as many smaller ones. Those crappie sure did have good color considering the time of year. Some bite real hard while most I caught just mouthed the bait. I used my Sam Heaton 12' rod and most of the time the tip would move ever so slightly downward. Didn't see a half of dozen boats all day long. Sure beat sitting at home watching the Colts get beat.
I think we're going next weekend if the weather is halfway decent.
