Little Platte Swim Beach closed as a precaution
    5/25/2010

Possible contaminants from the Little Platte Tertiary Three-Stage Sewer Treatment facility at Smithville Lake have caused the precautionary closure of the Swim Beach at Little Platte Park as recommended by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The beach closure is temporary. No contamination of the water has been confirmed, nor have injuries been reported.
Missouri DNR is conducting tests of the water and results are expected by Thursday. Other areas of the lake, including the Camp Branch Swim Beach, are open

Can't remember which year it was-but one winter there were 500,000+ snow geese every night on the water/ice by th e dam.
They estimated they pooped out about 1.3# of fecal matter daily-you do the math for a couple week stay that got dumped into the water.I think all the beaches were closed that spring.
