Default Trolling with the big motor

Anyone useing their big motor to troll with. Like a 225hp. I know the walleye boys do it but can it be done with a bass boat? Just thinking.

Folks do it all the time. Some pull buckets to slow their idle speed down, some pull drift socks to slow them down. Others have trolling plates on their motors to slow them down. The best way if you have room on your transom is to use a small kicker outboard to troll with.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I use my big motor, a 150 Johnson, to troll for hybrid's in July and August. It works fine other than being very hard on gas. It doesn't really like the warm water that much either, mists and sputters on me some. Also, it's a two stroke so the fumes and noise aren't pleasant. But, it puts me at a speed the hybrids seem to like, about 3.1 mph when just shifted into gear.

I've never used mine trolling for crappies, use my terrova for that.

I would love to install a kicker motor on my boat to save on fuel costs and wear on my big motor, but don't see how one could be installed on my transom.

Does anyone have any experience with installation of a kicker on an 18ft fiberglass bass boat?

I don't have any first hand experience ... but, a buddy of mine had a bracket mounted on his Skeeter Wrangler, and a kicker motor on it. Web's full of them, in all price ranges :p
There's also connectors that allow you to use your steering wheel/big motor to turn the kicker ..... or else there's handle extensions for the kickers. Google search turned up all kinds of brackets ... $80 - $800 :D There's also several websites where they discuss "locking" the kicker, to avert theft .... and what motor is the best kicker to have (Yamaha T8's T9.9's seem to be favored).

CP, thanks for the info. I've actually got a 4 stroke Honda, 5hp that I think would work. Just need to research some on brackets and see how some guys have them mounted. Just don't see to many set up like this in our neck of the woods but as much as I troll, it might be a worthwhile endeavor.
