Well...FH&R, I use ultra light stuff for crappie because it makes it
more fun to catch them that way. Even an 8" crappie can bend
my smallest Ugly Stick. And..I think that I get more bites with
light line than folks using anchor ropes do. Also..its not easy to throw
a 1/32 oz or 1/64 oz jig with a broomstick. Feeling that thump on a
light rod is easier, too ! What are your preferences??

I fish a lot of docks and structure (sunken trees and shrubs) so I prefer a 7'M w/ 6# hi-viz. Besides they grow pretty big down here and sometimes I need that extra backbone in the crap I fish in on ocassion.
But you right about one thing... the dinks put up a good ol'fight on an ugly stick ul... last time I used mine I was blue fishing on lake palestine... thought I caught moby. lol :D

Lots of reasons, a couple of the major reasons is they bite light, light jigs, and they are panfish, you don't need heavy tackle. IMO the lighter that you can get away with, the more fun!

I've got a BPS Pro Comp II UL rod that's only 6' and I fish for everything with it including trees and brush and it never seems to cause me any problems. Biggest I've caught is a 11 1/2 lb channel cat on it.

Just more fun using light tackle for them when casting.

They are nice poles. I have 3 now 2 they aren't made for a 200lbs man to step on them. It broke to much of a hurry. Will try to get another one to replace it.

The softer actions also help the jig from tearing out. It's easy to horse a good crappie with a beefy pole and tear the jig out. And for me it's not just Crappie. I fish for most everything with lite tackle. It's addictive. You get broken off sometimes, but it's fun.
