Default Jig Painting Rig Working Pretty Good....

Been working on this project off and on. Well, a student has...ha....

Here is a link to the rig. It works, but the painter ain't too good..I forgot to shake the jar of paint before spraying. See it in action and a few pics in the video clip. Comments welcome (even from SA's). 10 secs to paint a jig. You can time it. It is a controlled heat inviroment. Built from junk. $7.00 investment (not counting air brush).

I think you have a heat gun there to heat the jig and then shoot with the powder paint. Do you then bake the jig?
I have a fluid bed and a toaster oven I have experimented with a little bit.I know the powder paint is supposed to give a better finish, I just wonder how much better. I know that trying to do multi colored jigs, with multi colored eyes or jigs with glitter is going to require a little time to learn.

I took some temperature measurements with a thermocouple. With this particular heat gun, I read 500 degrees F at 1 and 1/2 inch distance from the jighead. This seems to be the ideal temp/distance for painting.

Couple of guys I know local saw me using the heat gun. They both use heat guns now. They still dipping, but one wants me to build him a turntable. I tried the gas bottle stuff. I was able to melt lead pretty consistantly. ha
Flip the switch, instant heat. No gas to worry about. I always have trouble keeping up with matches and lighters. I don't smoke.....

I ain't thru with this rig yet. I'm probably gonna automate the spraying part too. I got lots of model airplane servos left from my flying/crashing days...ha

I'm gonna get it where I put the jig on the turntable and push a button. Just takes time to figure it out. Good learning tool for some students too. I guess this is the main reason (if any) that I don't retire....I would truly miss the challenge........
