Default best way this time of year

How do you guys fish for crappie in January when the water is cold? It's supposed to be warm here in NC and if I get time I might go.
    Thanks for your help

Troll the channels and drop-offs looking for a group of fish. Then tightline minnows or jigs starting at the bottom and slowly reeling up until you find the right depth. I will let the bait set a few minutes, no bite then reel in about a foot and repeat. Once you have an established depth, then you can anchor down or troll along the channels at that depth.

i fish buggs island all winter and we catch most over brush in 15 to 25 ft. either swimmin jigs over brush or jigging strait down in the brush..been catching a lot last couple weeks 4 to 10 over the brush piles...swimmin the jig after we count it down to that depth. hope this helps!!
