    Yep, go 4 to 6 times a year, right now,it's early for trout/specs, and usually very windy.....had some buddies there a couple of weeks ago, big south wind, few boats on the lake, we stay at Spicers when we go and they ended up fishing for reds in the ship channel, they have put large rocks as a revettment up and down it, they caught a fair number of reds on the rocks........it also shelters you from the wind.......

    they probably threw back 4 or 5 undersize fish for everyone they kept..........

    Good luck;

    David

    I haven't heard any reports lately. Send a pm to Shadow, that is his home waters.

    I posted a report on Big Lake (Calcasieu) on the Saltwater forum here from my trip in early April -- did pretty well on the reds and puppy drum at the wiers and on the rocks in the ship channel. I also hear the trout are starting to show in the lake -- look for the birds on any calm day you get. I used Saltwater Assassin shad soft plastics in chicken-on-a-chain and morning glory colors, Gulp shrimp under a Cajun Thunder rattle cork and dead shrimp on a jighead on the bottom.

    When are you coming down? Are ya'll hiring a guide. Trout fishing has been good under birds when the wind allows. Caught some really nice ones last week. 3#s plus. Also caught red fish. Most of the oil spill is moving east. I have not heard that it will effect this area. However, if it leaks for months, like they are saying. Who knows. Let me know when you are coming and I might can give you a recent report.
